Spring Is Here!

it is SPRING TIME!

but like what everybody here’s condemning about, the weather in Seoul IS weird. to be honest. it was pretty hot even two weeks ago. it was like 22 degrees in the day. and you know what? it snow-rained on Thursday. it wasn’t that cold but snowing almost in the middle of April? that’s ridiculous.

it is currently around 1-10degrees from a few days ago till now.

read the weather forecast that today’s a nice sunny day so I brought my camera to school. but it was awkward taking pictures because now I am no longer.. a tourist anymore. I will take more pictures of Sungkyunkwan University when I get more comfortable and when the Cherry Blossom Trees blooms (excuses!). Continue reading “Spring Is Here!”

[Seoul: Sinchon] Cafe Container : Patbingsu Tower

so a few days ago Wai Kit sent me a picture of this tower patbingsu and asked me if I was interested. I’ve known about this oreo patbingsu for a long time since I often walk pass it. but little did I know, their oreo patbingsu is incredulously tall.

IMG_2024 copy

the location is rather easy to find. it’s on that road from U-plex (Sinchon) towards Megabox (Edae). for foreigners it might be a little tricky. but just get off at Sinchon (line 2 green line) and take the the U-plex (complex exit and you will see the red mirror tube thingy) exit. cross over to the other side of the road (you will see Etude House on the other side of the road.). you should see Krispy Kreme, Look Optical and Olive young on your side of the road as you walk. just walk straight!!!!!!!!!!! about 5 minutes walk. just keep on your side of the road. Jjim Dalg 찜닭 and 100%

only found in the last 10-20 years, Andong Jjimdalg is a very famous Korean Dish. I myself, am a big fan of this dish but I do not always eat this dish because it is not cheap U_U.

IMG_9261 copy

normally cooked with chewy glass noodles and mixed vegetables, this dish can be topped with the famous korean fried rice, which can be cooked with the sauce of basically any leftovers. eg : ddeokbokki sauce too! Continue reading “Jjim Dalg 찜닭 and 100%”

[Seoul: Samcheongdong] Hanjeongsik 한정식

the one Korean food that I’ve failed to try even though I’ve been here for so long is Hanjeongsik. it is one of the most expensive meals around. costing at least 10,000won for the cheapest one which doesn’t include you starters. it serves you an array of side dishes which are refillable. costing around 15,000won-20,000won on average, it’s worth it if you keeeeeep eating. like a buffet. okay maybe not. but similar.

Hanjeongsiks were formerly served to aristocrats and the high and mighty. but today, even we commoners can have a chance to have a taste of it.

IMG_0079 copy

my family, a cousin came here and he said he’ll buy me anything yummy so yeah! Hanjeongsik it is! my family tree is filled with handsome guys and pretty girls. although I am one of the few odd ones. but heck, look at my sister and my cousin! [Seoul: Namsan] Hiking Up Namsan Tower

one of the things I’ve always wanted to do is hike up Namsan Tower during Autumn and I did! well it’s already winter now but you can do the same for Spring, Summer or Autumn because it’s a good time to hike up. I took the cable car before and I think it’s an utter waste of money and time. why do I say time? because the queue is madness. why not just enjoy the nature while hiking up? it isn’t as difficult as it may seem. I am a weak girl who doesn’t ever exercise and I am saying this so you can take my word for it. but if you have an elderly with you of course taking the cable car (or the taxi) would be a better choice.

IMG_7489 copy

I blogged about the directions before so look for it at my older Namsan posts! but anyway, this is the start of the trail. many trees still green. either that or bald. the weather this time around was pretty bad because it rained so bad and the autumn leaves fall so quickly. Continue reading “[Seoul: Namsan] Hiking Up Namsan Tower”

[Seoul: Edae] make your own cake!

the good thing about living in Korea is that there are 101 types of different activities for lovers. well, not only lovers can do these sort of stuff sometimes. we were the only ones who were not preparing the cake for our lovers. but we still had loads of fun!

1355076147316

every stick costs 700won. expensive. yes I know. 2 Marshmallow costs 1000won. 2 puny Marshmallows. hah. I can buy a whole bag of it from Olive Young or Watsons with that price. well if you are a cheapskate like me you can always leave a space on the cake and buy your marshmallows and decorations later =P. Seoul International Fireworks Festival

the annual fireworks festival was held on 6th of October this year. and was for a good long 1 hour something. there were breaks in between each set from various countries though.

IMG_5740 copy

the best place to view it? the Hangang park in front of 63 building. you pretty much get off at Yeoinara station but we took the bus there instead. it starts at 7 something. Continue reading “Seoul International Fireworks Festival”

[Seoul: Hongdae] Hongdae Ddeokbokki 홍대떡볶이

thought I should let you travellers know what’s famous here and what’s not. so if you ever go to Hongdae, walk all the way pass SangSangMadang (the butterfly-like building), cross the road and you’ll see this shop.

IMG_6154 copy

you can either sit inside or stand outside to eat =D. I prefer standing as it don’t make me feel as fat =X. Continue reading “[Seoul: Hongdae] Hongdae Ddeokbokki 홍대떡볶이”

[Seoul: Hongdae] Kongbul! 콩불!

Kongbul is one of the cheapest food around which tastes absolutely awesome. if you like spicy food that is. because bul means fire. which means it’s going to be realllllll spicy. and kong means beans but for this shop it actually means bean sprout. hate bean sprouts? well, that isn’t an excuse because I used to hate it too. until I tried the goodness of Kongbul.

IMG_6667 copy

it’s actually a chain store so it’s not weird to run into one anywhere. so far I know that there’s one in Sinchon, Edae, Hongdae (picture) and Myeongdong. I’ve seen it before at many other places but couldn’t recall. and even in Busan and Anyang! this shop is everywhere I tell you. every tourist friendly shopping area I guess. and they all look the same. same design. Continue reading “[Seoul: Hongdae] Kongbul! 콩불!”

[Seoul: Seodaemun] Seodaemun Prison of History and Culture

being the touristy me again I decided to visit this scary tourist spot. built by the Japanese to imprison Koreans who were involved politically to protest the Japanese like 60 years ago.

IMG_3766 copy

just get off at Seodaemun Station and you will eventually find your way to the Prison with the help of Korea’s convenient signs. (in english too!) Continue reading “[Seoul: Seodaemun] Seodaemun Prison of History and Culture”
