[Seoul: Hongdae] Toms Cat Cafe

honestly, I am not a big fan of cats. in fact, I am quite scared of them. especially the evil looking ones pfft. but since Jian (akiraceo a.k.a Miao) is very fond of cats I thought I would come here just blog to show him how the cat cafes here look like (there are more than 3 that I know of).

we wanted to find the Gio Cat Cafe but unfortunately we got lost and stumbled upon Tom Cat Cafe (which is located opposite ARTBOX Hongdae =)). there’s also a Garfield mascot in the middle of Sinchon Rotary (at the huge crossroad) that advertises for some Cat Cafe as well. [Seoul] Myeongdong 명동

even if you’re not planning to visit Korea anytime soon, I suggest you to read this post because it’s interesting like that! it was a little bit of a culture shock actually.

there is no direction needed to get you to Myeongdong because it’s just so popular, nobody would get lost going to this place. after getting off Myeongdong station, you’ll find your way. but you might get lost if you wanna find the same shop twice.

[Seoul: Gwanghwamun] A Glimpse of Gyeongbokgung 경복궁

Gyeongbokgung is the LARGEST palace in South Korea, and also the most popular. reach before 4pm if you would like to visit it in winter season. or 5pm if not in winter.

unfortunately, I reached at about 430 and missed the entry. because I took my own sweet time over at Changdeokgung and slowly walked over to Gyeongbokgung. hahaha. yes, it’s walking distance. but it’s not exactly near. it’s funny that we actually followed the road signs for cars to get to Gyeongbokgung heheheh.

IMG_1845 copy

what’s behind me is the Gwanghwamun gate directly facing the main road. that’s just the first gate of the palace. fuh. and from this gate to the next? probably another 100m walk. Continue reading “[Seoul: Gwanghwamun] A Glimpse of Gyeongbokgung 경복궁”

[Seoul: Insa-dong 인사동] artistic place with.. loads of souvenirs

Insa-dong, the traditional street is a famous tourist destination, where I, personally don’t usually favour tourist spots so much. but Insa-dong is unique. they are not only filled with foreigners. instead, I bought the prettiest cheapest pair of boots from an uncle who couldn’t speak in english! (I saw similar boots selling here for around RM120 while I bought it for a little bit over RM50!)

[Seoul] Namsan Hanok Village VS Bukchon Hanok Village

from my 3 months worth of research on WHERE TO GO in Korea, I wanted to visit a historical place, and then I found out about Namsangol Hanok Village 남산골한옥마을 or just Namsan Hanok Village; the more commercialized Hanok village located in the heart of Seoul. but as I searched, I found out that Bukchon Hanok Village 복촌한옥마을, also the place where “Personal Taste” was filmed (yes with Lee Minho in it! <3) , is such a gem. located nearby to each other (near as in taxi trip near), I’ve decided to save time and only go to one. I picked Bukchon.

we got off at Anguk  station안국역 as directed (Anguk Station, Exit 2, walk 300m straight. do not ask for directions they will lead you somewhere else D=.) from the website and got lost =(. we then asked the locals and they recommended us to take a cab (do note that I have a Korean friend with me to do the asking =D) because it’s pretty far. we then got off at Namsan Hanok Village. I think it is because it’s much more commercialized and they thought us tourists were talking about Namsan’s one as they probably didn’t catch our words clearly D=.

since we were first timers, we didn’t know and went in straight to find that it’s actually Namsan Hanok Village! but because we paid the expensive taxi fare already(only take a cab if you have no choice, or have no time!) we did not want to waste it so we went in for a slight stroll! =D.

the parking lot. it was late November and there weren’t many autumn trees left. and there were abundant here! hence the picture. =D. Continue reading “[Seoul] Namsan Hanok Village VS Bukchon Hanok Village”

[Seoul] Ewha Womans Univ. 이대 and Sinchon 신촌.

E-dae/ I-dae stands for Ewha Woman’s Univ. something like a shortcut name for it. Ewha Woman’s University is a very popular all-girl univ. and the shops near by sells clothes, food, etc. at the most reasonable prices; prices students can afford. and from what Natalie told me, shopping for clothes in E-dae is the cheapest.

IMG_2518 copy

E-dae is right next to Sinchon, where Yonsei Univ. (the most beautiful Univ IMO) is. =D. walking distance, because I walked all the way from E-dae to Sinchon. about 1-2km walk. Continue reading “[Seoul] Ewha Womans Univ. 이대 and Sinchon 신촌.”

[Seoul] Sam Cheong Dong 삼청동.

a street located next to the Gyeong Bok Gung Palace,  is definitely a place to visit in Seoul. it’s an artistic street with a number of beautiful and unique coffee shops, restaurants and retail shops.

IMG_1898

it’s walking distance from the Gyeong Bok Gung main entrance. though a little far, but taxi’s in Korea costs a bomb and Korean roads are pretty confusing (that is also why they are so interesting! <3) so sometimes they might take the wrong turn and they will still count it on your account. =(. Coex Aquarium

there’s actually 2 aquariums which are pretty famous in Seoul. one’s Coex Aquarium and the other’s in 63 Building at Yeoido. it was pretty hard to pick but after doing some research, I found out that this one is supposed to be bigger. so Coex Aquarium it is!

IMG_2243

the entry fees was pretty shocking at 17,500won. that’s like RM50! holy cow. I wonder if it was worth it but since I was there I just went in anyway. Continue reading “Coex Aquarium”
