[Seoul: Samcheongdong] Hanjeongsik 한정식

the one Korean food that I’ve failed to try even though I’ve been here for so long is Hanjeongsik. it is one of the most expensive meals around. costing at least 10,000won for the cheapest one which doesn’t include you starters. it serves you an array of side dishes which are refillable. costing around 15,000won-20,000won on average, it’s worth it if you keeeeeep eating. like a buffet. okay maybe not. but similar.

Hanjeongsiks were formerly served to aristocrats and the high and mighty. but today, even we commoners can have a chance to have a taste of it.

my family, a cousin came here and he said he’ll buy me anything yummy so yeah! Hanjeongsik it is! my family tree is filled with handsome guys and pretty girls. although I am one of the few odd ones. but heck, look at my sister and my cousin! [Seoul: Edae] make your own cake!

the good thing about living in Korea is that there are 101 types of different activities for lovers. well, not only lovers can do these sort of stuff sometimes. we were the only ones who were not preparing the cake for our lovers. but we still had loads of fun!

every stick costs 700won. expensive. yes I know. 2 Marshmallow costs 1000won. 2 puny Marshmallows. hah. I can buy a whole bag of it from Olive Young or Watsons with that price. well if you are a cheapskate like me you can always leave a space on the cake and buy your marshmallows and decorations later =P. Seoul International Fireworks Festival

the annual fireworks festival was held on 6th of October this year. and was for a good long 1 hour something. there were breaks in between each set from various countries though.

IMG_5740 copy

the best place to view it? the Hangang park in front of 63 building. you pretty much get off at Yeoinara station but we took the bus there instead. it starts at 7 something. Continue reading “Seoul International Fireworks Festival”

[Seoul: Hongdae] Hongdae Ddeokbokki 홍대떡볶이

thought I should let you travellers know what’s famous here and what’s not. so if you ever go to Hongdae, walk all the way pass SangSangMadang (the butterfly-like building), cross the road and you’ll see this shop.

IMG_6154 copy

you can either sit inside or stand outside to eat =D. I prefer standing as it don’t make me feel as fat =X. Continue reading “[Seoul: Hongdae] Hongdae Ddeokbokki 홍대떡볶이”

[Seoul: Hongdae] Kongbul! 콩불!

Kongbul is one of the cheapest food around which tastes absolutely awesome. if you like spicy food that is. because bul means fire. which means it’s going to be realllllll spicy. and kong means beans but for this shop it actually means bean sprout. hate bean sprouts? well, that isn’t an excuse because I used to hate it too. until I tried the goodness of Kongbul.

IMG_6667 copy

it’s actually a chain store so it’s not weird to run into one anywhere. so far I know that there’s one in Sinchon, Edae, Hongdae (picture) and Myeongdong. I’ve seen it before at many other places but couldn’t recall. and even in Busan and Anyang! this shop is everywhere I tell you. every tourist friendly shopping area I guess. and they all look the same. same design. Continue reading “[Seoul: Hongdae] Kongbul! 콩불!”

[Busan] Jagalchi Market

finally, my post for this famous market in Busan. it’s open air, very neat and there are a lot of restaurants. lesser foreigners than expected but a lot of old people pushing everyone around while dragging their trolleys around.

IMG_4338 copy

this is right behind the Market, the Busan view from here was magnificent. I love how the houses are so close to each other all over the mountain. =3. Continue reading “[Busan] Jagalchi Market”

[Busan] pork soup rice 돼지국밥 (dweji kuk bab)

have been thinking for a while for the title but I ended up with this embarrassing title which is the direct translation of the Korean name. it’s basically pork with rice in soup.

IMG_4894 copy

it’s a famous Busan delicacy but I have no idea why this 24 hour shop is named as Gyeongju Kuk Bab ( Gyeongju’s rice in soup) Continue reading “[Busan] pork soup rice 돼지국밥 (dweji kuk bab)”

[Busan] Weird Food @ Jagalchi Market

I am very crazy when it comes to food. other than bugs, monkeys and dogs (or any kind of pet or endangered animals like whale or tigers pfft) , I pretty much eat everything. since I ate Sannakji (raw octopus) and definitely don’t mind eating something as disgusting as fermented raw fishes =D.

IMG_4377 copy

I’d blog about Jagalchi Market in a separate blog post, but just so you know, Jagalchi Market is at Nampo-dong as well, right opposite PIFF. and so my adventure on searching for disgusting weird food started. and we thought it wasn’t that weird until we asked what it was. because from the looks of it, it just look like some pig’s stomach thingy. which later when we ate it, it did not taste anything like it. Continue reading “[Busan] Weird Food @ Jagalchi Market”

[Busan] Nampo-dong’s Eatery Alley / Meokja Golmok 남포동 먹자골목

it literally translates to “let’s eat alley”.

there are basically only a few types of food there in a row sold by ajumma’s (do not call them ajumma’s. it’s rude. called them imo). not very difficult to find, it’s right opposite the PIFF (something  like the Arena of Stars in HK) road. basically an alley connecting to the Gwangbok-ro Shopping Street (Busan’s Myeongdong, even better.)

IMG_4261 copy

it’s in between Coffee Bean and a drug store, so yeah, very easy to find! Continue reading “[Busan] Nampo-dong’s Eatery Alley / Meokja Golmok 남포동 먹자골목”

Nurungjitang 누룽지탕

there’s this pretty damn awesome Sundubu Jjigae restaurant in Sinchon (if you come out from the Subway station in front of U-Plex then you should take a U-turn upon exit and you will see a road on the right where you have to cross a huger road to get there. it’s the first few shops on the leftside of the road.) shall blog about this shop next time. but the point of this post is just to let you know about what to do when you see something weird in Korea and have no idea how to ask what are those for.

lunch on a hot summer day (was hot!) Continue reading “Nurungjitang 누룽지탕”
