Fish Egg Soup / Al-Tang

dear foodies/korean addicts. you think you read the 100 things you must eat in Seoul is enough? not yet, because most of them did not introduce you to the famous Suljib (Alcohol place) soup, the fish egg soup. we call it the “al-tang”.

IMG_3754 copy

I absolutely love the al-tang. they are chopped in bite sizes and the soup are usually filled with it. yummy. usually a little spicy and has a lot of tofu in it as well. I am not a big fan of tofu just like Mr.JeremyTeo, but eating it with the aromatic soup, it’s pretty good! Continue reading “Fish Egg Soup / Al-Tang”

[Seoul: Sinchon] Ashley W+ : American Grill & Salad

one of the most popular chain buffet restaurants in Korea, and is found almost everywhere. Myeongdong, Gangnam and of course, Sinchon. and coincidentally, the “highest class” one is in Sinchon =D.

the front door! and down to the glorious food =3. Continue reading “[Seoul: Sinchon] Ashley W+ : American Grill & Salad”

Jumok-bab/Fist Rice/Riceball

one of my missions are to introduce you to not only the special but the local favourites here. and one of it is the FIST RICE! it directly translates to fist rice from Korean because 주목밥 Jumok = fist, bab = rice. my friend told me that the usual Jumokbabs are meant for the poor pfft because it’s huger than a fist and has tuna fillings in it usually. costing 1,5000KRW.

but my first Jumokbab experience was much more fancy as we had bulgogi, spam, kimchi bokkeum etc as fillings. they are also smaller than normal Jumokbabs and they cost 2,5000won-3,000won onwards. but I am pretty sure I am paying for the taste and the variety because it’s really damn good.

this shop is right outside Lotte World called KONG’S RICEBALL. it’s a chain restaurant so if you see any just barge into it =3. that day it was already late but the place was still packed with people.

IMG_3613 copy

hungry girl. to eat inside Lotte World you gotta prepare 8,000won for an ordinary Korean Meal that would cost you 4,000won. I’d rather come out have these deliciously expensive riceballs. Continue reading “Jumok-bab/Fist Rice/Riceball”

[Seoul: Sinchon] 8 Color Pork Belly Meat

well that’s kind of the direct translation of  “pal saek samgyupsal”, 8 color pork belly meat. haha. it’s very easy to find. just get to Sinchon and take exit 6, walk towards Sogang University but instead of walking on the left side of the road walk on the right side. and you’ll definitely see it.

it’s a chain so you might come across the one in Daehakno and the other one near Sinchon U-plex as well.

the shop is located underground and there’s a huge pig on the logo. Continue reading “[Seoul: Sinchon] 8 Color Pork Belly Meat”

좋은 호떡 아저씨

the title means the kind “Hoddeok” guy.

공기 호떡 (gong-gi hoddeok, which means empty hoddeok) is more like a traditional type of Korean bread. his van is placed right at the entrance of Yonsei’s main gate. it’s quite impossible to not see it. I’ve passed by it for months now and finally decided to give it a try. but being the girl who always run out of change, I handed him a 10,000won note for a 800won hoddeok. and he was out of change.

but you know what?

공기 호떡 @ 연대앞에

he told me to just take it. U________U. *touched*. such nice people still exist! and to my surprise, even though his hoddeok is empty, but it’s SUPER DUPER delicious. I now regret why did I not give it a try from the start. I’ve heard a lot of hoddeoks taste bad but his is so good. it’s crispy and the inside’s fragrantly sweet. can’t describe much. must try it yourself. please buy more! it’s yummy. 3 for 2,000won!

[Seoul] Gopchang, Makchang, whatever chang!

one thing I love about living in Sinchon is the crowd. on Fridays and Saturdays the street filled with HOF’s and eateries will be filled. but one of the most popular things to do here are eating food THAT GOES WELL WITH ALCOHOL!

IMG_2240 copy

welcome to Sinchon =D. it doesn’t look very classy but after all it’s a place for students. we decided to settle in a shop famous online, called 황소곱창 (hwang so gop chang) or something. there’s 2 gopchang shops side to side but I went to the one fully sealed up (the other one have open air tables, and is said to be more delicious.) BoA’s Only One filming location @ aA The Design Museum, Hongdae

aA The Design Museum @ Hongdae. I can’t really recommend you where to go because MOST of the Cafe’s in Hongdae are pretty and are priced at the same range and have yummy drinks all in all. but it’s right at the end of the Hongdae Road near that SangSangMadang area crossing the famous Ddeokbokki shop and turn left then right.

IMG_1767 copy

this place is HUGE. like HUGE. very spacious. there are 2 types of cafes. one are the huge ones like this one. another type are the small cozy little ones which I can assure you that they’re real good places to hang out at as well. [Seoul: Sinchon] Just bars in Sinchon

if you know me well then you should know that I am not so much of an alcoholic. but after coming to Korea I kind of got used to their Soju and Beer culture where you HAVE TO DRINK. and at the top of all Korean Alcohol, I love Makgeolli. and we drink it with Cider (very similar to 7 Up, can’t really tell the difference anyway). but there are times where you don’t want to go for the usual Makgeolli, Soju or Beer, but some good old drinks you often drink back at your own country.

IMG_0285 copy

there are plenty of bars, and mostly very unique and cute. and this one we went to is near the Ikan Bakar in Sinchon on the 2nd floor. you would notice the sweet red window. Continue reading “[Seoul: Sinchon] Just bars in Sinchon”

[Seoul: Insadong] Korean Traditional Tea

Insadong is known for being Korea’s traditional district and you’d see shops like Starbucks for example in Korean words instead of English because they think that by having everything Korean, it’s sustains the traditional feel of Insadong. I personally love going to Insadong despite the crowd of foreigners especially the route from Insadong to Samcheongdong. it’s just my favourite.

IMG_9881 copy

believe it or not, these are crackers. getting really famous there. but I felt it’s a little dirty =S. don’t wanna try it. Continue reading “[Seoul: Insadong] Korean Traditional Tea”
