THE LOCK UP, Shinjuku

Wednesday, July 27th, 2011

good thing about having a friend your age overseas is that they know all the cool hang out spots and also, the most special places.

I was very keen on wanting to look for perhaps some maid cafe or a place with those sort of cutesy decoration. but my friend, Sherlyn had a better idea because those are pretty old school now. so she then asked me, would you like to dine in a haunted jail??

IMG_4770

and that’s where we went hunting for the cafe. Shinjuku is pretty big and complex and getting there would probably be a problem if you don’t know the place well. because..

IMG_4847 copy

this is all you’d see on the streets. it’s at level 5. therefore…

IMG_4845 copy

yeap I know totally don’t look like an entry to a very weird jail restaurant/bistro.

also, getting to the place wouldn’t be a problem if you had found the red light district, Kabuki-cho’s entrance. say, you’re directly facing Kabuki-cho. right in front, face-to-face, then you’d have to go to your right. if you can, look up because you’d be able to find The Lock Up’s sign board too =D. but it wasn’t too obvious as I’ve remembered.

(a part of my pictures from the compact camera is gone because it got stolen T_T.)

IMG_4776

stepping out of the lift, you’d find yourself in a whole new world. there’s a flight of stairs in this really dark place. it really brings the mood up. it looks far scarier without the flash hahaa.

IMG_4771

and upon reaching I think you have to put your hand through that hole on the left. they’d do something to scare you but oh well, BRINGS OUT THE MOOD! then the door will be opened =D.

IMG_4788

locking us up so that we could be brought to our “cells”.

IMG_4786

the cells!!

IMG_4784

really, it can only fit one fat person. just like the cells! but instead of making it really jail-like, they made it more like a fantasy jail. =D. which is much more special.

IMG_4800

being locked up. it’s not spacious. at all. the cell doors open just for you to slip into your seats haha. but there are bigger rooms for the bigger group. ours were more special though =P.

IMG_4796

and oh, when the neon lights were on, the drawing behind had neon paint on its hair! and what’s so crazy about it is they painted the transparent neon paint out of the frame as well! you get what I mean? it’s hair. elongated to the walls!  it’s really really witty!

too bad it couldn’t be caught on camera pfft. was really dark. read on to know about the neon lights =D.

20110228213852

the menu! each person MUST order one drink even if you do not eat. and the cheapest drink is about RM20 as well (around 500yen). and they serve a lot of mocktails. rather than cocktails. haha.

but I must admit, they have GREAT DRINKS. you know how usually cutesy/special looking restaurants in Malaysia always have DISGUSTING/TASTELESS food? this place, it’s totally different. it’s really really REALLY GOOD. in fact, it’s so addictive you kept wanting for more.

IMG_4809

the soft bone chicken and.. was it cheese rice?

the soft bone chicken was THE BOMB. who knew they could turn something so simple into something SO DELICIOUS. I hate fried food but it wasn’t really oily! it is just right <3.

IMG_4801

the awesome looking drinks! ALLLL of them tasted good. ALLLL of them. but the peach(?) one tastes particularly good. that pink one! it tasted like peach T_T. but they were all mocktails so..

IMG_4813

AHH YUMMY!!! <3. each of us ordered something and we all shared. DELICIOUS~! <3.

note : the biscuit sticks with cheesy dips is a MUST ORDER. it is AWESOMEEEEE. THE BEST CHEESE DIP EVER. THE BEST I’VE EVER HAD! we had 2 of those and me and Sherlyn were literally eating it until not a slight stain was found!

and in the middle of having our meal, BAM! some loud music was played and the lights went off simultaneously and that’s where the NEON lights came out and you can see all the mysterious/scary/spooky drawings which looked rather ghostly on the walls. it’s ALL OVER THE WALLS.

IMG_4833 copy

at the mean time, this group of handsome guys in orange (haha!) created havoc in that narrow alley =D. they were shaking the bars and well, trying to scare us. but it was a rather fun experience!

IMG_4836

camera wouldn’t focus when its pitch black pfft.

IMG_4840

there were also tables for 2. but you’d be.. facing the walls. haha! every room have a different drawing though. really love their concept!

first time waxxxing!

Monday, July 25th, 2011
for a girl as conservative as myself, (yes I probably don’t look like it T_T) I actually found it difficult to like, perhaps expose myself to others. going to the sauna in Korea naked was the most daring thing I did. but as soon as I stripped, the bathing place closed. so. well. D=.
I had no knowledge on waxing because I’ve always portrayed it to be a “painful” experience. and the worst is, if you wax the more “shyshy” areas you’d probably feel awkward. Mandy asked me if I would like to try it a while ago and I thought, why not? I’ll have to grow up someday. *sniff*

IMG_1599

WAXXX.me, located at the Aman Suria’s shoplots (alliance bank on the left side, a few shops away) sure does have many car parks available. it wasn’t difficult to find as it’s actually facing the main road!

IMG_1612

don’t you just love the WAXXX logo? it’s so pretty. and guess what? it’s designed by the owner of the shop!!

initially, I thought that brazilian/hollywood waxing was perhaps a full body waxing with er.. brazilian/hollywood style waxing? but it turned out to be… waxing.. your sensitive area. it’s embarrassing to say, but I have never heard of it before. T_T.

but to my surprise, it’s actually a really normal thing to do! in fact, there’s actually quite a number of people whom are doing it monthly as it’s much more hygienic. weird, I know. I would try if I had the chance but it was just the time of the month. =D. many of us, in fact, did hollywood waxing for the first time! (all of them did hollywood. except me.) and they all said “it feels so good!”

also, WAXXX SPECIALIZES in brazilian and hollywood waxing + permanent hair reduction! there are actually many salons who does it. but really, how many of them are well trained/ professionals? so I guess it’s always safer to visit the professionals. not only do they hurt less, they’d prevent you from experiencing the most unimaginable situations =P.

IMG_1618

little did I know, there is MANZILLIAN waxing as well.

the reaction of Jon when the brave Sam Insanity went first for his hollywood waxing. he was actually really shy on revealing his “sensitive part” to another man because it seemed.. awkward. but well, the therapist probably saw too many to remember anyway.

IMG_1631

both Jon and Sam came out fine. feeling much more refreshed! =D. no they did not walk like a penguin. haha. and the guy in the black shirt with the moustache is the owner of WAXXX! do you recognize him? there was a billboard somewhere to PJ where a guy proposed? well, that macho man is our friend here! his proposal to his wife is probably THE MOST romantic proposal in Malaysian history. you can read about it here on Linora’s blog. *sniffs* more points to why you should visit WAXXX!

IMG_1607

honestly, I was pretty afraid even if it was waxing just my legs. T_T. I had my underarm done too  but no I am not taking a picture it’s weird.

the chic interior of the shop! the ambience of the shop is really good with the hip and trendy music and all! and the interior is designed by the owner as well! awesome much?

very clean room. sterilized with hospital grade disinfectant!

and also if you are wondering if they have products sold. I am glad to say, YES THEY DO! relevant stuff like moisturizer, ingrown hair solution and lightening gel (for the sensitive ares! =D)

IMG_1629

Mandy commented that my legs were literally shining when I walked out of the room. and guess what? IT DID NOT HURT AT ALL. sometimes it’s the mentality that brought me to become scared of it. but really, mark my word because waxing is not painful when it’s done with trained and experienced professionals! also, my legs feel soft and moisturized too!

and do not think waxing is fast and easy. it takes pretty long. like half an hour for full leg? but it’s alright because the therapists are really friendly =D.

IMG_1643

but I really have to say, WAXXX is as affordable as it is as their services starts from as low as RM9.00! and the awesomeness when it’s new? there’s 40% discount currently! now isn’t that a good bargain?

extra reasons on why WAXXX should be your choice?

1. waxes and accessories fully imported from Australia.

2. they uses the Depilar System, a new method of permanent hair reduction (and WAXXX is the FIRST and ONLY salon in M’sia)

3. NEVER DOUBLE DIP (every spatula is thrown away after every use!)

IMG_1636

all of us! satisfied!

S.O.X. Hoops @ MABA, KL.

Saturday, July 23rd, 2011

WOOHOO!! I went to S.O.X. Hoops All-Stars last week and it was a blast. and guess what? it wasn’t even the finals. 4 teams were picked and I have to say, it’s like watching football. you’d naturally have a team to root for. and a thing about shooting basketball games is that it’s pretty tough as the lighting in the stadium ain’t exactly too bright for photographers to catch those swift players on the go. quite a challenge I have to say. so whoever who wanna train their skills or get some experience, the finals is coming end of this month and it’s the perfect event to attend to.

IMG_1540

I was just in time to see the trio practice their spinning skills outside! I am already amazed on how awesome they can spin with their finger. two at once? amazing. even with that stick that guy is chewing on? mad. just mad. and LEG TOO? zomg. they were doing it for quite a while. it just kept spinning! I just wondered how did they do it!

IMG_1296

the ever so vibrant colour, orange.

and did you know, S.O.X. Hoops All-Stars are ONLY FOR THOSE UNDER 18? because old hags like me just won’t get it T_T. and not to mention that S.O.X. has GREAT plans for all of you under 18 too. it is just awesome to be young sometimes. student price, teenager price, and now even teenager telephone plans!

IMG_1354 copy

SLAM DUNK SHOT!

IMG_1330

this happens when a team fouls, and the other gets chances at shooting! they get 1 point only but it’s still helps!

IMG_1510

my panning shot!

IMG_1440

I caught those exciting moves on panning mode! I was pretty immersed in that panning mode after successfully taking one shot. and I have to say, AWESOME EXPERIENCE!

IMG_1427

“HEY GIVE ME THAT BALL!” I really really see how the themes gave their best in it. and how they really want it.

IMG_1547

the most exciting part is always on how the other team snatches the ball. D=. and look at those cool leg muscles! *shy* me no cougar don’t misunderstand >_<”.

IMG_1398

honestly, I was a little shocked at seeing how interesting can basketball games be. I thought football was the only manly sport I’d enjoy watching. but now there’s two.

IMG_1560

I’ve seen the 4 best teams from KL, and I’m waiting to see who’ll get first place in the grand finale!

the FINALS will be on the 31st this month. venue TBC (check the website!). see ya there all right?!

Tsukiji Fish Market

Wednesday, July 20th, 2011

well, not exactly INSIDE the market but it was those lanes of shops outside it. to my horror, it was closed on the day I went T_T. (LIKE WHY ON THAT DAY OUT OF ALLLL DAYS.) so do not repeat my mistake. DO NOT GO ON WEDNESDAYS. =(. I remember I checked before going and I thought it was closed on Tues. OH WELL. =(.

according to my friend living in Japan, he said that the famous tuna fish auction is limited everyday and you’ll have to get there at 5am in order to witness it. heck. 5am? what am I going to do after that? fish shopping? =S. but it’s alright because other than the inner market, you can stroll around the outer market even at 9am =D. I was actually very determined to try out Sushi Dai. BUT IT WASN’T OPEN TOO. =(. the other branch outside doesn’t open so early either. =/.

but even so, I actually had a better view of the stalls OUTSIDE the Tsukiji market area where I guess that probably most foreigners would rush into Tsukiji market and neglect the beauty of the stalls outside. this set of pictures would really be one of my favourite even though it wasn’t inside Tsukiji market. and surprisingly, there were actually many japs fish shopping there! =D.

IMG_5787

one of the many lanes.

IMG_5792

yeap, the TOKYO ZANMAI!!! despite having Zanmai here so often, I still wanted Zanmai there.

Cliff told me that all the shops at Tsukiji serves fish of the similar freshness and just go into ANY shop.

IMG_5833

*click to enlarge to slightly get an idea of the prices. note: 1000yen = RM37.

in most places in Japan (other than those with the conveyor belt), sushis don’t come in pairs. =P. yes, so that’s the price for ONE PIECE OF SUSHI. wuwuwuwuwu. T_T. but the Uni there is so good. SO GOOD. (more on Zanmai later on!)

IMG_5876

another cozy little restaurant that serves rice bowls!

IMG_5877

not the same shop but also serves the same thing. and these rice bowls topped with fresh sashimis are very expensive T_T. heck that’s like almost RM80 per bowl. *dies*

IMG_5884

I stood there for a while to wonder what they were selling. but I couldn’t tell. looked like some japanese sweets to me D=. NOT CHEAPP. nothing is cheap in Japan other than Yoshinoya. U_U.

IMG_5958

and here comes the fresh seafood!

IMG_5961

gosh look at that octopus! <3.

IMG_5964

geoduck! <3. those clams were all so huge. you can have the meat. can I haz ze shell? =D.

IMG_5966

I somehow find this picture artistic! ^^. it’s very subjective but do you think so too? D=.

IMG_5960

more fresh seafood! abalones, lobsters, oysters….

IMG_5972

ah! beautiful crabs! hur– I want to eat Hairy Crabz now. they’ll only be available at the end of the year pfft.

IMG_5977

TEMPURAs! isn’s that a bit too pricey? =S. probably it’s because it’s No.1. haha. but most bento’s around that area costs 1000yen and above. =S. can’t blame.

IMG_5826

saltyfish!

IMG_5970

the thing about Japanese people are.. they are really well mannered T_T. they allow you to look at their things, stroll around and they wouldn’t even give you a STARE! went to Noryangjin in Korea and got scolded just for taking pictures by this auntie. HURR. T_T.

IMG_5881

GIANT CLAMS!

IMG_5967

and er, more clams? =P.

IMG_5837

we met this really nice group of tourist from California. and SHOCKINGLY, they thought I looked a LOT YOUNGER THAN MY AGE. it feels good to look young but it’s just so weird. in a Malaysian’s eye, I’m ALWAYS 20 OR ABOVE. T_____________T. yet they actually thought I’m like a little girl D=. I wonder if it was the hair style or what but it’s great to look like 16 no?! MUAHAHAHHAHA.

IMG_5975

I am a huge fan of crabs. but why are there no jelly fish? I’m a bigger fan of jelly fish!

AND CAN YOU SEE THAT SPIDER CRAB RIGHT ABOVE MY WATERMARK? ITS LEGS WAS AS LONG AS THE TANK!

how to get there? get off Tsukiji station on the Hibiya line and walk straight then turn left on the main road (if I am not wrong!). you’d pass through this really huge and beautiful building with a wide parking space(?) which looked a bit like a government building if you’d ask me. haha.
