Hong Kong Dim Sum!

Monday, November 17th, 2008

what is Hong Kong without DIM SUM?? nice or not, you still gotta try. I actually prefer the chee cheong fun in Malaysia but as for the other dishes? they are those which you’ll seldom/not find in anywhere other than HK. and there are “directions” for how you should order your dim sum. if you are in a high-class-restaurant-for-rich-people-that-tastes-normal, there would be no problem for a foreigner to order something. BUT, if you are in somewhere where locals pours in, you gotta know how.

firstly, you will be given a piece of printed paper, chinese words or whatever with numbers. THEN, there won’t be a price list around. the waiters or waitresses WILL NOT serve you to the dim sum. YOU got to squeeze yourself to the dim sum auntie and give her your paper and point out at what you want to eat. delicious ones and famous ones are usually waited with many people. and in my opinion, it is always better to go with friends. =D.

dim sum

dim sum can be really filling, so if you want to try more, get more people to go with you. =3. those who can’t speak cantonese at all are adviced to go with somebody who knows cantonese,or just go to the expensive ones that’s good, and the one that is REAL yummy and is REAL expensive, it would be Lei Garden (Lei Yuen). =D. you do not need to know where to find it, just go around the Mong Kok area and ask the locals for the restaurant.

hong kong street

this is what you’ll see at almost everywhere. beautiful isn’t it? =P. I LOVE IT. hahaha. not so pretty, but it is super special isn’t it?! but I just wonder if it’s dangerous to have so many signboards on top @@. the beauty of a forest of buildings. =>.

everythings so pretty in HK! even the no entry signs! =P.

wing lok street

this is called Wing Lok Kai (Tsuen Wan). never come here during the rainy season because this road is usually flooded, but it is getting fixed! =P. I seriously hope I can read chinese now, there is so many sign boards which is in chinese T_T. pffts for being a banana.

and another reason why you should love HK.

jamie and james

it is because there are many nice and cute people around! they will help if you need it, really! and this is my new made friend =D. such nice eyes he have =3. right??

exchange students

yes, many! =P. it is really nice of them to do charity right? =D. (my mom forces me to take pictures with everything and EVERYBODY. seriously.)

the peak

though it is quite of a polluted country, but plants will be planted at every little space and every little corner. =>.

hong kong the peak tram

ever been on trams? =D.

I need to learn how to read! wheee Hong Kong.

I’ve always thought that food in any restaurant rock in HK, but it kinda seem like I was wrong, SOMETIMES in the “popular places” their food will be less tasty, especially if there are no advertisements of them in newspapers or whatsoever. and which will be the better place? of course, the one packed with locals. even sometimes its interior is not so great, but the food are……………. super.  and just like how I bumped into this restaurant, it’s in Sai Yee Kai if I’m not mistaken. well, this one is a good example of how to see if it’s good ( usually the ones like these are guarunteed delicious. but there are fakes also I heard ).

food!

super canggih door. hahaha.

more food!

and no doubt the food is good. and did anybody tell you that the pig’s blood in HK are the best? it’s always fresh and smooth. very very yummy.

yumm

3 tiny drumsticks for $15, kinda reasonable right? =D.

who wants to get good bargains?!

cheap bargains

in most places in HK, they usually sell overpriced stuff, expensive this and that. especially in places like Causeway Bay and Ladies Market, but just nearby, you will see the packed shops usually on the second floor onwards which sell stuff that’s cheap, pretty and trendy. I say that because I saw the same scarf which is 99 bucks in Ladies Market selling for only 30 bucks in this place.

clothess

forgotten to take a picture of the shops (too busy shopping =P). so here are the stuffs I bought. =3. will be seeing it later on when I wear it. hahaaa. it’s all below 100! THIS IS JUST A SMALL PART OF WHAT I’VE BOUGHT. >=D.

so where did I buy it?

must-go-shopping-mall

I don’t know how to read chinese T_T, so recognize it from the picture okay. but it’s easy to find as it is outside the Mong Kok MTR station Exit… er, just follow the sign Argyle Street and then there are exit 1 and 2, I don’t remember which one, but turn to the one on your right. =D.

curry fish ball

I overheard some students saying ” the curry fish ball here are the best! ” and so I headed to it, and ordered a stick. and yes, it IS the best, so far. no other curry fish ball is better than this one =P. its at Yau Ma Tei exit at Pitt Street and Pitt Street right or left? RIGHT! right outside the MTR station also hahahaha.

cute guy

it is never boring being alone in the MTR stations because………. cute guy posters are everywhere @@. I do NOT fancy Ron Ng =D. actually, hot guys and pretty girls ARE everywhere in HK.

bus stop

and so IF you are really fed up with MTR. try taking the buses! lots to see! =D. and trust me, taxi’s are totally not worth it. don’t take it if there are other options.

harbor view

NEVER say that you went to HK if you’ve not visited the Harbour. because it is the most beautiful thing. and try not miss out the Symphony of Lights at 8pm daily! but missing it is alright. =X.

whats more to see in the Harbour?

well, there is the Avenue of Stars, where there are quite some stuff to do see there.

singer

something called “fascinating performance” or something @@ which is so-so. but at least something to SEE right? =D.

avenue of stars

rather than Statue of Liberty in NY, there is a.. Statue of Stars? in HK! =D =D.

loads of THINGS to camho with. =D. there are more, but I am not showing~. hehe.

and my favourite =D!

jet li!

camho with “stars”! their hand prints =X. good exercise too, as you will have to squat down and TOUCH the not so dirty floor. and you will have the urge to do it with every star you like. hahahhahaha. it’s just weird, why must they do it on the floor ><”.

and when I say every star, I mean EVERY STAR!

aaron kwok

the ever so famous and HANDSOME (it seems like he never gets old) Aaron Kwok <3. he’s FINALLY married. can you imagine, he is like around 3o years older, and still, so famous among the youngsters my age? o.0.

jackie chan

I’ve always thought it’s Jacky Chan, not Jackie Chan. I just realized this TODAY! when you go to the west, you tell them, “hi! I am from Malaysia!” that english guy will go “sorry? where is Malaysia?” but if you ask them, “do you know who is Jackie Chan?” they will say “YES! of course I do!” he is more popular than a country my goodness. *I’ve experienced this while talking to an english online*. =((.

michelle yeoh

Datuk Michelle Yeoh truly brought pride to Malaysians. =P. in fact, she is like the only? Malaysian that made it to the big screens. why Malaysia so big but so little people made it into the big screen but Hong Kong so tiny and so MANY made it.*shakes head*. Malaysian actors gotta work hard! =D.

harbor view

then, you can camho with the view while star cruise is passing by. =D.

harbor view

so this is the fascinating Symphony of Lights which is, to me, not something compulsory to see if you’re in HK for only 2 days or so. (egg tarts is a must eat!!! wuahahaha).

the peninsula

the most expensive oldest hotel in Hong Kong. facing the super great view in front. if only I get to stay there for a night =P. <3.

joi kin!
dim sum? anyone?

next, Dim Sum anyone?

finally, in my dreamland.

Hong Kong.

right now, I’m blogging in my China Home in Quan Zhou. I am so tired for the pass few days. very very tired. my leg feels like it doesn’t have muscle cells and my shoulders feels like it has two tonnes of rocks on top of it. ughhh. Hong Kong is indeed a place where you need loads of stamina, BECAUSE you gotta do everything FAST FAST FAST! not only that, but to walk throughout your journey too, as the taxi’s are SUPER expensive. anyway, lets start with PICTURES! =3.

clouds

I don’t know why I don’t know how, but this picture rocks my socks. <3.

with AIRASIA, now everybody can FLY! which is really true, other than the hotels in HK costs a bomb.

and Air Asia have huge comfortable seats too! other than the drinks and food are not “free”. and the people(not the air hostess) are not all so “well mannered”. but on my flight there were 2 groups of students from if I’m not mistaken Mutiara International School and Alice Smiths School, who are mostly guys, which are.. hot. =P. so darn jealous of them, they get to go to HK for school trips what the heck. ><”.

so the first picture of HK! something not so pleasant. =X.

efficient garbage lady

super long trolley just to fetch GARBAGE. damn efficient ok. our place have nothing like these. just maybe a small little basket. >_>”.

and to something yummy. which I bet most people will leave this dish out of their list when they are in HK, because it is not in the top10 must try list. but this is to me, even more important than chilli crabs nor polo buns.

beef noodles

Beef Noodles. I especially like the beef’s tendon noodles. (ngau kan meen) <3. must try! and for variety, you can have a mixture of everything where it is called “ngau zhap” and also if you don’t like tendons, “ngau lam meen” will be best for you =D. and IF you want both, I recommend “kan lam meen” which is a one piece with tendon and meat. still, just order any of these! also not forgetting to have XO sauce to go with it. =3. usually the shops with newspaper advertising it is nice, some, it tastes really bad. but trust me, out of 10 shops, 9 have delicious beef noodles sold, and each usually have their own special taste. =P. woooo, I should really become some food critic in the future hahahah.

shih tzu

cute a not?

cute right?

I just heard somebody saying ” SO CUTEEEE “! and I’m sure of it. =P.

a Shih Tzu I saw on the roads owned by some aunties. SOOOO CUTE!!!!!!!!!! and I couldn’t resist to touch it. =X.

me with shih tzu!

and HK dogs are very tame seriously, not fierce at all, they didn’t even lick me >_>”. I LOVE DOGS alright. small dogs.

POMERANIANNNNN

and another which is EVEN CUTER! POMERANIAN! I used to have a pomeranian tooooo, but it died T_T. Pomeranians are kind of naughty by the way. =P. so it’s quite difficult to keep them still. but this one loves the camera =D.

lui yan kai

Lui Yan Kai (ladies street) in Mong Kok, which is also very near to the hotel I stayed in. not a place to shop in. they ONLY serve foreigners. stuff’s there are SUPER expensive. totally not worth it. most places in HK are like that, but don’t let that “expensive” word go to you, because clothes and accessories in HK are REALLY CHEAP. depends on where you go to, and I got just the right place to go to. will tell you later =P. pretty, cheap and fashionable, what is better than that?

so lets proceed to the next day.

which is the actual DAY 1! ignore the lala-look, I am REALLY not meaning to be one of them T_T.

daily essentials in HK :
- map
- notebook
- pen
- comfortable shoes (WHO SAYS BOOTS ARE NOT COMFY! just that addidas is better =/)
- octopus card (if you’re not planning to waste money on taxi’s and walk for a bit)

octopus card is very important there. been using the same one since I was first there back in form 2. and it is still usable now, looks very new too. if you are planning to be there for a while, PLEASE get one. why? because you can use it in trams, buses, MTR the underground railway system, some tourist spots where you do not need to waste time buying tickets exp: the peak, instead, you get discounts too! it helps you save yourself from looking stupid buying tickets everytime and help you safe time as time IS very precious in HK.

Mong Kok. a famous place for the expensive cheap stuffs. but there are also loads of cheap expensive stuffs! jus have to go to some place where the locals go. =). want to know whereeeee? =P read on! I am bribing you. hehe.

some buildings across some street there. my mom calls it the bird cage. small, packed and MANY!

oh, can anybody tell me what allergy will make lips swollen and then crack? it’s painful too. =(. will consider showing you the SEXY thick lips picture in the next post. =P.

sangat letih. =(. (very tiredddd)

good night people!
