Ewha Womans Univ. 이대 and Sinchon 신촌.

Monday, June 27th, 2011

E-dae/ I-dae stands for Ewha Woman’s Univ. something like a shortcut name for it. Ewha Woman’s University is a very popular all-girl univ. and the shops near by sells clothes, food, etc. at the most reasonable prices; prices students can afford. and from what Natalie told me, shopping for clothes in E-dae is the cheapest.

IMG_2518 copy

E-dae is right next to Sinchon, where Yonsei Univ. (the most beautiful Univ IMO) is. =D. walking distance, because I walked all the way from E-dae to Sinchon. about 1-2km walk.

IMG_2519

upon exit, you’d see TEENIE WEENIE! it’s like Ralph Lauren but the logo’s a teddy bear. guys wearing a Teenie Weenie polo is so adorable <3. I once saw this macho man in KLCC wearing one! <3.

as you walk towards Ewha Woman’s Univ., you’d find many street stalls around!

IMG_2520

I wanted to try this one where some local television people were filming on him. seems to be selling BBQ-ed rice cakes and corn.

IMG_2521 copy

and dried squids. I think dried squid is much more disgusting compared to living squids. =S. living squids are damn delicious though D=.

and a local treasure that I have found..

IMG_2523

DALG GGO CHI 닭꼬치!! it’s the most HEAVENLY CHICKEN SATAY I’VE EVER HAD. you can have it spicy or not spicy, your choice. =D. I stopped by the street stall at Nami and tried a number of street snacks (3 of us had 30,000won/RM90 worth of street food X_X. Peter said he can eat RM100 worth on his own when he’s hungry zomg. never underestimate street food!) and still felt that dalg ggo chi is the best.

IMG_2524

a stick of heavenly chicken costs around 2000won/RM6 =D. it’s a low price to pay to buy so much tummy happiness!!

IMG_2527

I was full and had no idea of what this was. looks like burger patty to me haha.

IMG_2529

the winding narrow E-dae street. with bright pink banners. I like how they are so daring in colours. it just brightens up the place! =D.

IMG_2530 copy

and every street seems to be connected by even narrower lanes where the number of interesting shops never ends.

IMG_2534

they placed a cute mascot running everywhere but at the same time the mascot didn’t give out fliers nor did it stood statically outside a certain shop. I wonder what’s the purpose but it’s alright, because the mascot’s really cute!!

and that shop behind me is COLD STONE. THEY HAVE COLD STONE RIGHT OUTSIDE THEIR UNIV.!! super lucky. I only discovered the phenomenal taste of cold stone until I went to Japan. pfft. but it’s a MUST TRY if you see the shop. remember, COLD STONE!!!

IMG_2535

Charlie Brown Cafe! anybody’s a Snoopy fan? and Natalie (find her link on my sidebar!) reviewed about this adorable cafe! it’s so cute but time was running out at that time. pfft. it sucks to visit on Autumn/Winter because it gets dark really early.

IMG_2556

no idea what this is?? well, THIS is their UNIVERSITY. beautiful yet cool ain’t it? and those metal strips on the sides are actually their classroom, library, etc. the architect is mad. it’s like where modern meet traditional.

IMG_2559

camwhore moment.

IMG_2560 copy

spam.

IMG_2563

spam spam spam.

IMG_2575

I only have this picture that shows how the inside look like T_T. anyways, it’s very special! =D.

IMG_2576

the other view. =D.

AMAZING ARCHITECTUREEEEE. <3.

IMG_2583

there’s Auntie Anne’s and Body Shop right outside. =D. if I were to study here I’d be bankrupt in no time. Auntie Anne’s an addict. and in Japan the line for it is madness. like at least 30 people in line on a weekday D=!!!!

IMG_2586

AH! <3 cheap clothes!! Korea's fashion is much more simpler (but nice!) compared to Japan's but at least the price is pretty affordable =P.

do note that it is like looking for a penguin in the desert if you want to find summer clothes in winter. haha. okay-lah. there ARE summer clothes but very hidden and little. not very nice either. =/.

IMG_2588

an installation right outside a Subway station. I have no idea of the name of this subway station. I thought it was Sinchon Subway station but there wasn’t any McD outside the station (Nat told me that I must try that BBQ buffet in Sinchon so I did!).

IMG_2601

we then asked some local whom have guided us and we had quite a long walk (to save up 900won/RM3 PER PERSON!) and finally, SINCHON 신촌!!!

so like how Nat guided me, she said,

IMG_2598

take the exit where it leads you to McDonald. then walk straight and along the way you’d see Paris Baguette (a very famous  bakery shop in Korea. prolly more famous than McD.) and shops like Addidas and all. walk straight until you see Starbucks and that shop with a huge T on it.

walk on that lane in between those two shops and you’d see “with espresso” and walk a little bit more.. and you’d see the shop.

IMG_2615

it was pretty dark when I arrived, it’s that shop with that yellow sign board. there are yellow boxes above the shop but because it was late so it ain’t noticeable. T_T. anyway, you’d see a HUGEEEE 8,000won (or a bit more if the price goes up) on their poster and you’ve arrived!!

IMG_2619

EAT ALLLL YOUU CANNNN. beef, pork, chicken, only at 8,000won! the place gets really crowded when it’s near dinner time which is around 7.

IMG_2640

there are rice, rice balls, tauge, noodles and soup. pajeon too! but I don’t usually eat rice when I have buffet. it’s too filling.. and it’ll become not worth it. D=.

Peter said only Chinese people are like that pfft. as in, we must eat what’s MORE worthy. HAHAHA.

IMG_2621

their witty way of puncturing holes on the piece of aluminum foil to let the oil released by BBQ-ing the meat drain.

IMG_2625

and this is the second type of witty way. haha. and this way, you’d see the amount of oil. it’s pretty scary. we had 2 cups filled with oil. eeeerk T_T.

IMG_2628

BBQ pork and kimchi. nyum nyumm <3.

IMG_2652

walking towards Sinchon station and bumped into this horny Garfield hahahaha. he thought I was Jap! he kept saying aishiteru and some other jap phrases then hugged me tightly while he meraba-raba my back U_U. what’s meraba-raba in English again? errr. rubbing in a wrong way? haha.

IMG_2657

a bathtub installation art =D. the designers of Korea made Korea an even more special place. <3.

S.O.X. Drum and Dance FINALE

Friday, June 24th, 2011

last Saturday was the finale for the S.O.X. Drum and Dance competition @ The Piazza, The Curve! after the long awaited moment, I finally had the chance to see the cheerios up close as my seats were really really close! hence the better shots, even when I was sitting. =D.

IMG_0185

our MC’s of the day! Zher and Hafiz from FlyFM! and Ean backstage at that time.

I arrived slightly after 10am, just in time for the first batch of All-Girls Category. I have to say, they went through a lot to have made it to the finals. I have been in a competition before. I know!

IMG_0299

Titadyn from Chong Hwa High School. love their uniform, love their poms.

IMG_0276

Eagles from SMK (P) Methodist! they won the best showmanship! it’s all shown in their faces, no?

IMG_0282 copy

Vulcanz from SMK Seafield! I used to root for Vulcanz all-boys just because my close friend was in it. but there weren’t any Vulcanz all-boys no more and my biased mind automatically substituted them with Vulcanz all-girls. but I am actually not that biased, because they won first place! it means, they ARE good!

IMG_0314

Titans Senior from SMK Ave Maria. all the way from Ipoh!

IMG_0242

and the every so bright Titans Junior!

IMG_0255

Vibrant A from SMK Puteri Titiwangsa who won third place!

IMG_0200

Hotshots from Tenby International School! and they were really good. they were smiling all the way! and hence, they won second place!

IMG_0215

the Titans were REALLY supportive. they cheered for every single group and I just had to take a picture of their enthusiasm!

IMG_0356

I am not sure if it is because I am old U_U, but I used to go for Cheer competitions when I was still in Secondary School and had been a FAN of Charms All-Stars. and after.. a few years.. *hems*. the amazing Charms All-Stars member is now the Judge (the Paula Abdul/the nice one) for Cheer competitions!

/fan girl mode/

All-Boys Category!

IMG_0419

Zodiac who won second place from SMK Kepong! I saw them almost every year and I have to say, they improve every single year. I actually enjoyed all the all-boys cheerios very much because of those stunts that they are capable to do. and they seem.. more energetic too? haha.

IMG_0449

Pirates, THE CHAMPION, from SMK Cochrane! also the best dressed!

they were very cheeky and fun, I have to say. definitely very entertaining too =P. if there were no categories, I am pretty sure that they will take the championship away among all categories. they were super energetic from the beginning to the end!

IMG_0391

Ignite who won third place from SMK Bandar Baru Uda! that guy in who’s the center of attraction of this picture, WAS the center of attraction of the whole performance. not only was he energetic, he was enthusiastic. his facial expressions and his actions were so powerful that me and the other bloggers wow-ed at him. he reminds me of Jo-Kwon from 2AM. they way the dance and all. very sporting!

IMG_0359

a Vulcanz Cheerleader! I absolutely adore their outfits. it’s just so pretty. their designer is amazing, whoever that is. every single year their outfit is not only attractive, but fitting as well. red, blue and white goes so well together!

the Drumlines were slit in between the Cheer Dances so that the whole competition will be even more fun. they are not categorized though. the first impression of “drumlines” to me was.. they’d probably play something to match with songs played at old fashioned weddings. but I was wrong. they were awesome. to my surprise, they were equally as entertaining as cheer dances. @_@!

IMG_0271

SJMMB Drumline from SMK St. Joseph, Miri won second place! they were very natural and… united? I guess that is the word. they have that strong bond that really shows their team work instead of just showing off their individual skills!

IMG_0239 copy

THE MACHO MEN/ Sam Tet Percussion from SMK Sam Tet! they look like baseball players with those gears under their jacket. it cracked me up a little when I saw it but I think it’s really cool because it boosts their confident look by.. A LOT.

IMG_0281

Sakti Drumline from SMK Sains Kota Tinggi! they were fierce, they were cool (the sunglasses proves it!) and they were absolutely fun.

IMG_0228

MMB Drumline from SMK St. Micheal, Ipoh! those were ninja suits cum karate kid! their outfit looks the most awesome (creativity wise!). the most manly group? them!

IMG_0289

and my favourite. most of the drumlines had cool faces on them but PFS Drumline (Penang Free School) were all smiles! they’re really skillful already and plus those killer smiles, it really brings the mood up. they got everybody tapping their feet!

and oh, THEY WON FIRST PLACE! YAY!

IMG_0300

SGGS Drumline from SMK St. George, Penang! the only all-girl drumline. GIRL POWER!

and then there were the PK sessions where two drumlines come against each other to compete.

IMG_0461

they were so different from their normal performance. they actually had all sort of witty ways to show how special they are!

IMG_0466

the friendly faces!

IMG_0541

the organized ones vs the friendly faces. I am a fan of PFS Drumline. D=.

the organized one is Bruin Drumline from SMK Riam Road! they were really cute. when the drummers play the drums, their head move according to the beat. you’s just have to watch the videos to understand what I am talking about U_U.

IMG_0433

IMG_0483

the Judges’ drumline!

IMG_0499

spam. teehee. it feels horrible to be sandwiched between two gorgeous girls really U_U. but also because they are gorgeous you HAVE TO camho with them. PFFT.

Co-ed Category!!

IMG_0520

Zodiac All-Star from SMK Kepong! these cheerios won first place alright! they were such a good combination. their clothes, their dance steps and all. <3.

IMG_0502

Titadyn! I have to agree with the judges, the guys outfit just couldn’t match up with the girls. U_U. but nevertheless, great performance! they won second place!

IMG_0550

Vipers from Sri Cempaka! one guy and 5 girls? now that’s something special! third place!

I bet you’re all mixed up with who won what and all. it’s alright, I’ve compiled a list here :

Sushi Culture Shock : Shirako

Friday, June 17th, 2011

today I would like to introduce you to this sushi which is not very known outside Japan. as usual, I always try my best to look for some interesting food in a country that I am going to visit through google and I found Shirako.

IMG_7555

it wasn’t available in the small-bar-type sushi shop so I went ahead and look for a conveyor belt sushi shop; or what some people will call sushi from a hole. hole in the wall sushi?

the prices could be seen above. just so if you can’t see, it is : 525yen, 399yen, 262yen, 210yen and 168yen. what odd prices. right?

unlike the bar-type ones, they serve sushi’s in pairs. I had always had my sushi’s in pairs ever since I first started eating sushi, but it wasn’t so much of a popular thing in Japan. in fact, they only have sushi in pairs when it’s on a conveyor belt. of course, sushi served this way are less fresh compared to those where the sushi professional makes it on the spot for you. but the prices are always more reasonable.

IMG_7561

the prices of a plate of sushi can go up to 700+yen for a set of 3 pricey sushi (sea urchin, toro/tuna belly and salmon roe). and do you know how much is 1000yen? RM37. but it’s really cheap compared to what we can find here. the only sea urchin sushi I saw on the menu is in Hokkaido Ichiba which costs RM18 for ONE piece. T_T.

IMG_7552

the plates there are really pretty. and in some places, there are GLITTER plates of gold or silver even. and also, I had my first sushi culture shock. SALMON sushi is the most famous sushi here in Malaysia. but in Japan? it’s about the same price with.. tamago sushi (egg omelette). or at some places, even cheaper.

and oh! these plates (at higher end restaurants) have some sort of chip in it? because the waiters does not count your plate. instead, he’ll use a machine to swab vertically along your plates to check the total of your bill. I get why it’s essential, though. because the plates are all so.. fancy and difficult to differentiate when it’s all stacked up.

IMG_7573

back to Shirako. that sushi IS Shirako.

have you heard of it?

it is a VERY famous sushi in my opinion because the middle aged Japanese woman who sat beside me ate ONLY Shirako.

shirako

Shirako is DELICIOUS I have to say. I am pretty sure I ate the cooked version somewhere in China before and it tasted like.. smooth goose liver/foie gras. to have it raw, it’s very creamy. something like Mayo. but much more fragrant =D.

and you wouldn’t believe what that is.

guess?

IMG_7791

peach ice cream is YUM. 200yen. RM8! U_______U. or was it 300yen. in Japan, you’d spend money without knowing because even a 500yen is a coin.

Shirako is the fish’s male organ.

yeap. fish testicle. would you like some fish testicle? seriously, it’s delicious. ;) .

looking for a PSP? and a GPS too? how about a great camera too?

what about a Sony Ericsson’s Xperia PLAY?

as you can see above, it’s a smart phone cum PSP with it’s PSP-like gaming buttons. it works as a GPS and it has a 5MP camera! it’s just so convenient! and because the phone is so new, everybody will start noticing you and your phone while you’re gaming with your new cool gadget =P.

and no worries about it lagging because it uses the Andriod 2.3 Gingerbread with WiFi/DLNA support = FAST GAMING SPEED. best still, it has a 4″inch screen! not only is it more fun gaming, but it’s also easier to surf the web! because I hate scrooling the page from left to right too. up and down is good enough.

my decision.

Thursday, June 16th, 2011

I have to say, I love art. but maybe it can not be what I’ll want to focus in fully in the future. to succeed in this industry is not easy, especially when art is so subjective.. here. like what people always say, you only get famous after you die. well, art branches out to many different kinds such as graphic design, interior and fashion. graphic, is one of the best earning job already, but at the same time, people pay you to do what they want to see. basically, you start off with being a puppet which delivers what the clients want to see with your skills.

like every other job, you’d need to climb up to the top to be an art director and be the one to control. but still, the clients will always make the final decisions.

talents, are as important as interest in art. sometimes, it might even be more important. but even if you have a little talent, HARD WORK is the key. you’d spend many many MANY hours working on the same thing and nobody might even appreciate your work or even know how stressed you are just to finish up your work. on the other hand, when you finished your work and is satisfied, the SATISFACTION makes everything seem so worthy.

as a job, in my opinion, if you’re needy, just do something you can do and do not hate doing. perhaps, something you find to be alright doing everyday? and as for your hobby? do it part time. because doing it part time might also get you recognized if the luck is with you, as long as the fire is still within you. =D.

IMG_9351 copy

so what YOU think? rawr.

IMG_9553

that unique wall in MAPS. ah, awesome.

Sam Cheong Dong 삼청동.

Monday, June 13th, 2011

a street located next to the Gyeong Bok Gung Palace,  is definitely a place to visit in Seoul. it’s an artistic street with a number of beautiful and unique coffee shops, restaurants and retail shops.

IMG_1898

it’s walking distance from the Gyeong Bok Gung main entrance. though a little far, but taxi’s in Korea costs a bomb and Korean roads are pretty confusing (that is also why they are so interesting! <3) so sometimes they might take the wrong turn and they will still count it on your account. =(.

don’t worry about not knowing how walk there. here are directions to Sam Cheong Dong =D.

samcheongdong map

I used paint to draw on the map I obtained from google map. =P.

just so you know, Gyeong Bok Gung is GIGANTIC. it looks near but it’ll probably take around 10 to 15minutes to reach Sam Cheong Dong. =D. initially I thought it was pretty near, until when I was actually walking, I kept thinking “where is it? did we miss it?” and the street looks fab so it’s pretty impossible to.. miss it. before reaching you’d see guards further in front guarding Cheong Wa Dae’s (Korean Blue House/Prime Minister’s home) entrance =D.

to get to Gyeong Bok Gung, there’s a subway station right next to it; Gyeong Bok Gung Station. I don’t know which side was it located at as I went to Gyeong Bok Gung by foot from another palace =X. we had a Korean Boy with us to ask for directions there =D.

IMG_1934

levels of cafes. not only are the cafe’s there beautiful, they come in decks! haha. and that’s Cafe Nescafe! =D.

that girl is modeling actually =D. shows how Sam Cheong Dong is a prime place for photo shoots even among locals!

IMG_1921 copy

this is a boutique. can you believe it? it’s so pretty! the price are equally as “pretty” as well. =S.

IMG_1927

not to mention that food and drinks here are also a little bit more pricey compared to most places in Seoul but at the same time not too over the top. you’re paying for the location and environment too =D.

IMG_1920

okay, these are madly expensive but also madly adorable. /sniff sniff/ they are handmade I guess. there were only a few of these shops when I went during sunset. the sunset on Autumn is like at 5pm T_T.

IMG_1928

ain’t this romantic? they actually rented space to show their love. it’s actually by an artist but about the couple having to pay the artist or not, I’m not sure. haha.

IMG_1950

this is one of the most OR was it the MOST ROMANTIC restaurant I’ve ever seen. when I saw it, I thought to myself, wouldn’t it be romantic if a guy proposed to a girl here? it’d be perfect! gah I shall create a book on “the most romantic places to propose in Seoul” HAHAHA.

IMG_1964

more unique restaurants. they are all so pretty. and most of them are really old. as in, they have been here for over 20 years!

IMG_1943

my mom and the amazing view of Sam Cheong Dong. I was absolutely in love with the scene but my mom couldn’t capture the same feel of me with the view.

IMG_1946

it’s probably my face. or her skills. pfft.

wait. I think it’s the height =P. I’m a head taller than my mom. =/.

IMG_1933

super posh chairs <3. another artsy cafe <3.

IMG_1939

TOYKINO is located here in Sam Cheong Dong =D. TOYKINO is a Toys Museum by the way =D.

IMG_1956

the architecture of each and every restaurant/cafe/shops took my breath away T_T. I reckon that all architecture students should visit this place at least once in their life pfft.

IMG_1961

have you watched 49days? then you should be familiar with Sujebi. this is a LONGGG Sujebi shop =D.

IMG_1971

gallery, restaurant and bars. they make use of every space. and unlike Malaysia, shops located above the main level does great business too!

IMG_1959

<3. all restaurants there are just so sweet U_U.

IMG_1978

this one caught my attention especially. like it’s name, it looks like a very magical house =P. very.. cartoony =D.

we got real hungry walking through the whole Sam Cheong Dong and decided to eat at this shop which had been opened for more than two decades.

IMG_1990

kimchi soup hot pot with dumplings(mandu) and dokbokki(rice cakes)! it’s very special and the ajumma there told us that this is actually a very famous shop to eat these.. hot pots?

IMG_1982

gold korean cutlery! first time seeing it =D.

IMG_2002

close up. the fill for those dumplings are rather interesting. adding dokbukki in it was a little too filling though. the bill came up to 30,000won (RM90) for the 3 of us. as you can see.. it’s pretty pricey. but really delicious!

IMG_1992

more to come!
